My name is Hopie Mechelle. I have been married to my best friend, Shannon, for almost 24 years and we have five children. I have homeschooled my kids for the most part and have been very blessed to be able to stay at home, work as a songwriter and be very involved in the ministry.

Music has always been a huge part of my life. I remember lying in bed with my little sister when I was five years old listening to my mom and dad talking in the front room. I could hear the Whippoorwills somewhere in the distance through my open window and Otis Redding's 'Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay' playing on the radio. That old song always takes me back to a simpler time when the world was a safe place for two little girls to fall asleep bathed in moonlight.

I have been singing for as long as I can remember. At the age of twelve I started playing piano and writing my own songs. When I was a young teenager, I sang constantly. I remember singing at the county fair with no band. I just got up on the stage and sang; and I won. I didn't care how afraid I was of the crowd. The need to sing was greater than the fear of doing it.

I also remember lying on my bedroom floor singing along with the radio into an old tape recorder in hopes of having 'back up music'. It never worked well, but I had fun trying. I still have one of those old cassettes.

As I got older and gave my life to Jesus Christ, I began writing songs from Bible passages in poetic form. I began to play the piano and sing my songs in church. When my brother-in-law and sister were called to plant a church, the Book of Acts, in our home town, they asked me to come and help them for 'just one Sunday'. I went that 'one Sunday' and I ministered there fifteen years. In 2018, God told me to step down as worship minister at the Book of Acts and go to Mercy Ministries where my sister and brother-in-law had moved five years earlier.

I have been a worship leader for twenty years now. I lead God's people into worship as Jesus leads me first. The way God moves through pure worship is one of the most amazing things I have ever known in my life. When God's people begin to call on him and sing from their hearts, he moves. People are healed and set free under the anointing that comes through sincere worship. This is the power of God.

I love those awesome services when the Spirit of God is so thick that silence falls and I hear the voice of God saying, "Tell my people, 'thus saith the Lord'...''

This is who I am and why I am here. I want to reach the lost in this world for Jesus Christ..and so I sing.
